Jeff Santiago writes songs with some miles on them.

Best known as the frontman and principal songwriter for Asheville's Santiago y Los Gatos, Santiago has spent years making guitar-driven rock & roll built around characters, places, relationships, bad decisions, and the things that tend to linger after the dust settles.

His solo shows take away the machinery.

No band to lean on. No wall of guitars. Just a voice, a guitar, and songs pulled from across his catalog—along with a handful of covers from the writers and bands that helped shape him.

It's quieter than Santiago y Los Gatos, but it isn't necessarily gentler.

Stripped of the band, the rough edges of the songs become easier to hear. Lyrics move forward. Stories stretch out. Some songs change completely. Others reveal that there was always a small, stubborn song sitting underneath all that noise.

Santiago's musical roots reach through indie and alternative rock, punk, power pop, and the stranger corners of American songwriting. His solo performances carry all of it without settling comfortably into any one category.

It's not an acoustic version of the band.

It's the songs without a safety net.
